RIHANNA PREPARES TO FIGHT IN NEW ‘BATTLESHIP’ TRAILER

Rihanna is looking super-intense in a brand-new trailer for ‘Battleship,’ which shows even more epic action scenes from the forthcoming film.

The singer plays Petty Officer Raikes, appearing in several shots during the 2-minute long clip. The trailer offers more context for the movie, which was directed by Peter Berg of ‘Friday Night Lights’ fame.

The flick follows a fleet of naval ships that are tasked with trying to stop an alien force from destroying the world. Fans get a glimpse of these robotic creatures, which can traverse land and sea. They are shown taking over Hong Kong and beyond, and at one point we hear a voice that says, “We’re looking at a global extinction event.”

From the looks of Rihanna’s game face, Raikes has this covered. The movie, which is based on the popular Milton Bradley game, also stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgaard, Liam Neeson and Brooklyn Decker. Fans of ‘Friday Night Lights’ will be pleased to see Jesse Plemons (Landry Clarke) on the big screen, as well.

The blockbuster will be Rihanna’s second film, following the straight-to-DVD cheerleading movie ‘Bring It On: All or Nothing.’  ‘Battleship’ opens in theaters on May 18.

FOX To Reboot Fantastic 4 With Chronicle Director

Picture
In the never ending parade of reboots, Fox wants to reboot theFantastic Four franchise, and they want the director of the upcoming movie Chronicle to do it.

Josh Trank seems like a cool choice to do it, though, as his feature debut Chronicle is actually a superhero flick — using the found footage technique. The low-budget, ultra-realistic feel to it could be something cool to bring to the table of a AAA title like the Fantastic Four.

We suppose they could have chosen much worse. Now all the need to do is lock him down!

The only problem is that they got the writer for the pretty bad Green Lantern to write the reboot. Let's hope he's learned some lessons after that!

‘DAREDEVIL’ IS GETTING REBOOTED WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT

Picture
Previous to becoming their own studio, the way Marvel Comics negotiated their deals was that you had to keep a project going in order to retain the rights to sequels, etc. Which explains why Columbia Pictures has rebooted ‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘ and why Fox is trying to hold on to The Fantastic Four and Daredevil. So now Fox has gotDavid Slade and a writer attached to a ‘Daredevil’ reboot.

As Deadline Hollywood broke today, David James Kelly will be penning the new script for Slade. They offer no credits for the writer, and the IMDb offers no obvious Kelly for the penmanship. One of their listings offers someone who’s done some shorts, one lists someone who’s done only one short, while the third has done some post-production assisting. It could be one or none of them.

For both Fox and Sony, keeping these rights in their hands may be more important than making money in the shorthand. The first ‘Daredevil’ made over a hundred million – as did both ‘Fantastic Four’ films – while Spider-Man has been a cash machine for Columbia. Letting go of these properties means letting someone else take a crack at them, and in our current cinematic environment, rebooting and resetting is so common that  the second those rights lapse, surely Marvel will redo them. So why let go? And so we get more Daredevil, whether it’s wanted or not.

"HUNGER GAMES" Cast Arrives in Los Angeles

Picture
Katniss, Peeta and Gale -- more commonly known as Jennifer Lawrence (right),Josh Hutcherson (left) and Liam Hemsworth (back) -- arrived in Los Angeles yesterday as the March 23 release of "The Hunger Games" is almost upon us.

The movie is based on a book of the same name ... which at one point was on The New York Times list for over 100 consecutive weeks. Advanced tickets for the movie broke Fandango's record for advanced sales, beating out "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

JAMES BOND WILL RETURN WITH A NEW FILM IN 2014

Even before the release of ‘Skyfall,’ the producers of James Bond are so confident with the franchise that they’ve announced that they’re planning on making a follow up in 2014. This isn’t all that surprising as the Bond series has been going on for fifty years, and the last film made over a half a billion worldwide. Still, that’s cojones.

This came from from MI6, who got this out of CinemaCon, and it’s worth noting that ‘Skyfall’ would have been released much much earlier than its scheduled November 9 release date if MGM hadn’t gone through a disastrous budget shortage that saw them sell off completed films ‘The Cabin in the Woods‘ and ‘Red Dawn.’ Daniel Craigand director Sam Mendes were on this long before they ever started shooting and they waited until the red tape was cleared up – tape that was bound to be cleared up for such a proven franchise.

What’s interesting is that there’s no word about whether Craig or anyone else might return. Craig may still be under contract (often actors are signed on for three films, though Marvel and the new franchise sensibilities may have changed that number), but – at the end of the day – does it really matter? Craig is the sixth official Bond (with many more if you include the 1967 ‘Casino Royale’), and – as has been proven over and over again – Craig can easily be replaced.

"Die Hard 5" Gets a Director

Picture
The upcoming fifth installment of the DIE HARD franchise will have John McClane going global and stopping an international terrorist in Russia. The film will reunite McClane and his son (who was noticeably absent from LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) who are traveling to Russia and become involved in a conflict with local forces. So to recap, McClane has gone from LA to Washington, DC to New York City to all of America now to the whole world. Up next: John McClane saves the universe!

In addition to a new locale, DIE HARD 5 is also getting a new director. Back in February, it was announced that Noam Murro would be directing DIE HARD 5 but just a few weeks back, Murro opted to direct the 300 prequel XERXES instead. Now Fox has hired Irish director John Moore (MAX PAYNE) to take over the gig.UPDATE: Deadline now reports that Joe Cornish (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Justin Lin and Nicolas Winding Refn are all on the shortlist with Moore who has yet to get the gig. Who's your favorite choice?

Moore is no stranger to Fox, having directed only four films (PAYNE, THE OMEN, FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX and BEHIND ENEMY LINES) all for the studio, but hasn't directed a film in three years. Willis just wrapped MOONRISE KINGDOM for Wes Anderson and is currently filming indie drama FIRE WITH FIRE. No word yet on when DIE HARD 5 will begin filming.

Vin Diesel Talks About Next "Riddick Film

Picture
Last we heard about the upcoming Riddick flick, Vin Diesel was saying that he'd be taking a major pay cut in an effort to get the movie made.

Now, Vin has opened up further about the next Riddick movie on his Facebook page.

I hear you…

While I was working on character, the Director and his team of artists have been creating the world and style of this picture. We all know how much I enjoy concept art and storyboards, haha, I am like a kid in a candy shop.

Seeing the early stage of CGI is always fascinating to me, it is a element that usually comes together long after the filming process, so you look forward to seeing it fully realized.

First stop for the Riddick production is Canada, which is where we shot a large part of Chronicles…

Jay-Z Visits Will Smith on-set for Men In Black 3

Picture

Will Smith has been spotted all over New York City, filming scenes with co-star, Tommy Lee Jones for the third installment of the series. He caused a ruckus over his extra large trailer and had many New Yorkers up in arms. That has since passed and things look to be back to normal, or at least as normal as can be when Jay-Z pays you a visit on set.

The rapper hung out in Battery Park, sharing some laughs with the star and watching as they filmed scenes and chatted between takes.

These two wildly successful entertainers are certainly no strangers. Jay-Z worked with Smith's daughter, Willow last year, on her catchy hit 'Whip My Hair.' Earlier this year rumors swirled that Jay-Z would once again be teaming up with this showbiz minded family, joining them on the Sony remake of the musical 'Annie,' starring Willow, of course.

Are you ready to return to "The Blue Lagoon"?

32 years after Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins got stranded on a deserted island, Lifetime has begun filming a TV remake.

Australian hotties Brenton Thwaites, 22-ish, and Indiana Evans, 21, were spotted on set of the new flick this week in Puerto Rico -- where they proved the kids in the new version might be wearing more clothing than Brooke and Chris did back in 1980.

Instead of loincloths, Brenton was seen wearing boxers while Indiana donned a bikini and jean shorts. Of course, if they're shooting the film in order, their clothes may start to disappear even more.

A New X-Files Movie Is In The Works

It’s been a while since Mulder and Scully were on the case – but that might be all about to change. A long awaited third X-Files movie is in the planning.  But are  David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson keen to reprise their roles as our favorite FBI Special Agents?

It’s been four years since the last X-Files movie…and 14 years since the first one. But the fans have been lobbying the creator and writers online for a third and final movie. Writer Frank Spotnitz has told Screen Daily there’s a lot oflove for the 90s TV series and he’d love nothing more than to see Mulder and Scully on the beat once again’ There is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didn’t happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonization of earth David and Gillian feel the same’. Woohoo – you couldn’t have the X-Files without those two!

Frank says there are plenty of  ideas for the next movie ‘I have a clear idea of how it would go and I’ve been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. I’ll keep banging the drum whenever I meet the Fox guys.’ The only problem facing a new movie is the cost. The 2008 film wasn’t exactly a blockbuster and the studio is nervous. Has too much time passed since the televisionshow? Do we still  want to know what’s out there?
